What if the Devil Said He Was Sorry?
I have been wondering what it would be like if this morning, right now, Satan said he was sorry. If he went to God and said, "You are the creator and sustainer of all. I repent for my rebellion against your authority and I want to live for you, to be under your rule and to be about doing good things." What would happen? What would we be like without Satan conniving and plotting to devour us? Would we all be able to live godly lives? Would we no longer have to fight against temptations? Would the world be a place where all of us were focused on the same God and not on ourselves? Would there be no more war, no more killing, no more evil? Would there?
Or have we developed a taste for sin and would perpetrate it upon ourselves? Would we want to continue to gorge ourselves on evil pleasures? Would we continue to worship ourselves rather than our creator? Would we still show disrespect to His Word and His people, without Satan encouraging it? Would we become our own worst enemies, rather than Satan?
Just wondering?

I think if he did say he was sorry, then it would effect (affect?) him and God and no one else. His evil is too pervasive. It would take a long time to clean the earth of it all, if you even could. It's like Pandora's Box, once it's been introduced the world will handle the spread of it. Interesting question!
Wow! I didn't expect that post. It is an interesting question. But God knew from the beginning Satan would not repent, he would never say he was sorry, although on the day of judgement he will confess Jesus in Lord. God already prepared a place for him---and his angels, in eternal fire.

I think we are such sinful people, Satan really could turn us loose and still win many souls --we like sin and we are habitual sinners so we would not want to stop even if Satan did. Good post.

Maybe we give too much credit to the devil. Yes, he was part of bringing sin into the world. But, he does not have the abilities of God. He works in concert with other demonic forces but alot of what is happening is just the result of sin let loose in the world. I agrre with Dean, God knows the devil will not repent. We just follow the lies perpetuated from the beggining.
On the other hand, it is thought provoking to think none is past repentance, even the devil. Sometimes I want to limit who can repent, not consciously but subtly. God's grace is extended to everyone until we go to stand before Him.

The point isn't really whether God would accept his repentance. The point is whether we have become such sinful people, it wouldn't matter if he were here. Satan will never repent. We would, like james said, continue to believe the lies already told, we would continue to live the evil already begun. Good question, but I like the other posts better. This one hurts my brain, haha

What a thought provoking question and what a sad commentary on us---that essentially Satan could quit doing his work and he would still be able to influence us.
It boggles the mind, doesn't it?

How interesting--I think God would have accepted his repentance if it were real but that we would probably keep on sinning. We are like african lions who are "domesticated" but still remember the taste of blood and sometimes still try to get it. That is how we are with sin. That is too bad

I agree with the other comments, it probably wouldnt matter to us.

What I love is the irony that even the thoughts of Satan can glorify God. I would hate that if I were him. It is like scoring baskets for the other team.
Even if the world goes on sinning,it is up to us to be the shining light, that glorifies Him.
