If #3

Next question gang . . .

IF . . .you could give the pope one piece of advice, what would you tell him?

Please answer and tell why you chose that answer. I am looking forward to your comments and discussion

Peace,
Neva

I think this is the hardest one yet. It would be so difficult to give someone like that advice. I might remind him that contrary to what he might have heard, God is the only infallible one.

Good question, though. I might change my mind and be back.

I would tell him to repent--

I would ask him if he believes Jesus is the only one who can save him and ask him if he believes Jesus has all authority then I would "advise" him to study.

Good question!!

I would ask him to use his vast influence to make major shifts in his church so as to allow them to move closer to God.

*Allow priests to marry, which will make major adjustments in the sexual abuse problem ... but also to remove known abusers from the priesthood.

*Continue to pursue discussions with evangelical Christians.

*Help evangelical Christians understand the value of the role of the Saints in History /de-emphasize the role of the Saints / Mary as having contemporary spiritual influence.

*Ramp up already existing Catholic agencies meant to bring justice, mercy, and peace to the helpless.

*Trade Vatican City for Cuba, set those people free, and let Cuba become an island of refuge for persecuted people worldwide.

Hey... when you dream...dream big!

Tough question!

Is your devotion to Jesus as strong as it is to Mary? If not, why not? Why do you worship, pray to, look for intercession from Mary when Jesus says He is the only way to the Father, so why do you attempt to usurp Jesus' place or substitute Him with Mary?

So are you going to bundle up these nifty suggestions and send them to the pope? If you send it email he probably has a "protestant" spam filter. He gets lots of suggestions from those pesky "protestant" folks. He also has a "heretic" spam filter. We aren't really protestant but we are rather removed from what he believes to be the faith. If you send it by snail mail he has people opening up his mail and checking it before he or the cardinals read it. One of them might read these suggestions and think one of them is sooo good that he will present it to the pope as his own.

I'm not sure what I would ask him or advise him. I doubt that I'm smart enough to overcome his heritage and learning.

Thank you all for your comments. Some of yall are very funny (James and Brian and Bob) and some are just plain old confusing. I am not sure if the last comment by anonymous was referring to me, the pope or some other commentator. Anyway, thanks for your contributions.
Peace,

I have a friend who advised me to not to offer advice unless it was asked for. So unless he was asking, I would assume a learning posture from a man that is so respected by a large portion of the population. I think I would ask him what are some assumptions Protestants have made about him/Catholics over the years, because the more Catholics I meet, the more I realize I have been fed many myths that have no business in the body of Christ.
Thanks for the provocative question, Neva. It certainly made me ponder my feelings toward the Pope, and I have to admit I was surprised by what I came out with.

And I do have to say that I love the advice of ditching the hat...that was hilarious!

I would ask him to renounce that horribly non-biblical concept of purgatory.

If you were to number these, I think the #1 answer would be "dude....lose the goofy hat..."

My personal advice. . .
Read, read, read your Bible. Start in Genesis and read through Revelation. Then start all over and do it again and again and again and again........
