Mulling . . . . . . .
I am reading a new book called "Portrait of God" by Fank Chesser. I am not very far into the book but have been struck by Mr. Chesser's rich language. I find I am reading and then needing to stop and mull some of the thoughts over in my head. So today, I am mulling over this thought:
"Obedience is love moving faith to embrace grace and appropriate its provisions to one's soul"
Hmmmmmm. . . . . .

I see why you are "mulling" it over. It is very rich. I will be back with some surely profound comment after I do some "mulling" of my own.

I read that book and loved it, I didn't agree with everything but one rarely does when it comes to a secular book. I love the quote.

I think it is a beautiful quote. I think we get so worried about obedience being an act of legalism that we forget it is rather an act of love, like the quote said, love "moved" by faith.

After grace I have to start thinking a lot. I kind of get lost. However, after reading that many times, I think that is absolutely right. After too many sentences like that, I might have to go take a nap from all the brain power I had lost.

You have to read it several times to really get that he is not saying we earn grace but rather our obedience is the way we access it. I happen to like it!
Way too deep for me, but once my husband explained it, I like it too. I always knew I loved grace, just didn't understand it.

Obedience is love--the kind that causes us to act on faith.
That obedient moving faith that is rooted in love helps us take hold of grace
That Grace then allows us to have that which the sacrifice intended for our souls--eternal life.
It helps when we break it down.
It is a beautiful truth.

At first I put:
Hmmmmmm.... sounds a lot like faith without works is dead.
But then I realized it's actually more:
"And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."
Neva! Again?? lol
I tried mulling over the whole thought as a monolithic piece and failed completely - so decided to dissect it, piece by piece.
Obedience is love - Hmmmmm!
moving faith -Hmmmm, again!
to embrace grace - Now we're getting there.
and appropriate its [Grace's] provisions Now what might they be, those provisions?
Redemption? [yes],
salvation? [yes],
gift of the Holy Spirit? [Wow! YES!]
God's presence in us and we in Him? [Yes, Yes, Yes!] Merited? [No way, Jose!!]
More? [You betcha! Never ending, PTL!]
to one's soul Taylor-made for each of us, yet equally available to all of us!
I’m sure there’s much more to this phrase than what my limited mind
could think of, but this helped me see the richness of his [Chesser's] thoughts.

I am doing some mulling, but I think I absolutely agree.
I am still mulling this over and have to tell you that I love it! I think it is a beautiful statement of redemption. Thank you for sharing it with us.
