The Non-Proverbs 31 Woman

The wife with little character is easy to find. She values herself more than she values those around her.
She drives her husband away with her constant wanting of more and her dissatisfaction with the lifestyle he can provide.
She regales friends and family with his faults and he is easily replaced.
Her house is always a mess, dishes in the sink, dirty laundry on the floor, and beds unmade.
She picks up takeout or makes reservations for meals.
She hits the snooze bar until she must yell and fuss at her children, hurrying them to get ready for school, wearing wrinkled clothes that do not match and without breakfast.
She has a job but spends her money on pedicures and manicures, nights out with the girls and new clothes and diet coke.
She is a lazy worker, taking long lunches, playing on the computer and watching the clock.
She whines and complains about the things she lacks. She sees only her own plight, uncaring and unseeing the needs of others.
She destroys her husbands reputation, talking to anyone who will listen, even embellishing his misdeeds in order to make her point. She shows no discretion is airing her problems.
She uses any and every medium to share her "story" and her "struggles" playing on the sympathy of all she meets, elevating herself and diminishing others.
Her wisdom is worldly and distorted. She values not her relationships, readily discarding others when they are no longer of use to her.
She leaves the raising of her children to anyone who will watch them and fleaves them with a sitter or family members often.
Her children defend her now but they will not call her when they are grown. (They learned about relationships from her)
Her husband looks back and thinks of her as the "greatest mistake of his life".
Many women do ignoble things but you surpass them all.
Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but true character cannot be hidden.
God is not fooled. She will have her reward and her works will be talked about at the city gate.

I got this the other day. It was supposedly written after watching that U-Tube video and hearing the report about the socialite Patricia-Walsh Smith. But I thought it was very telling, don't you?

Thanks for sharing that. I've never seen anything quite like that. It is very telling. OUCH.

Reading that makes it clear, either your (currently) a Proverbial woman, or the Non 31 Woman. There's no two ways about it.

I must fwd that post; its a good read.

Wow! Met her, loved her, lived with her, not anymore! God knew what He was doing when He told us what to look for in a wife. When we don't follow His guidelines, not only are we miserable but everyone suffers especialy our children. Mine continue to suffer. Although I am not with her, I pray for their mother daily. I spend as much time as I can with my children and While she can't say enough bad about me, I look for the good qualities in her to talk to my kids about. (Sometimes they are hard to find)
I pray that she will change--she professes to be a christian--her father is a minister, in fact, howeever she is the quintessential non-proverbs 31 woman. Saw her face as I read your post!
A warning to all young men looking for a bride--this is what you DONT want. Take it from me.

I have often found myself exhibiting some of these qualities. I am always a work in process, trying to become the Proverbs 31 woman rather than the non.

great thought provoker.

Every mother's day the sermon seems to be the Proverbs 31 woman and most of us go away feeling like we could never live up to that. Unfortuntately we stop trying and we end up like the woman you describe here.

Great post, Neva

Ouch! I know lots of women like this--often divorce makes women bitter and angry and greedy. We see it all the time.
BTW I hasppened to see that woman on the news and she was really hateful! It didn't seem too surprising that her man left her and didn't want to give her anything---I cnt remember how much money he was giving her but it was an awful lot at least to us common folk. She wanted more and their condo on 5th ave.
I don't know maybe we just are such a proud arrogant people that we all think we "deserve" better and more and we have got into such a habit of blaming someone else that we live as victims. And worse seem to relish that role.
Sorry this is so rambling--your post just made me think.
Glad to see you back! How are your health problems? The tractor cab guy posted taht you were going to have some story to tell us--we are waiting! :)

Wow to say the least. Is it like looking in a mirror? No, but just being on the fringe is scary enough! Being on the fringe may be worse. To be honest, I really feel like this was an awesome way of looking at things for us to indentify and fix these things that are problems in our lives. And for all the men out there replace she with he and so on, Reread it and think! Unfortunately, I believe this just might touch a little to close to home for everyone. And if it doesn't then praise God that you have Him so close in your life!

Yes Neva it is very telling of a group of young women and men that grew up physically but mentally are still teeny boppers devoted to self.

We see a lot of that in today's society and the blame can go to over indulgent parents who tried to give the little darlings all their hearts desire with no responsibility attached. I know I am guilty of giving my kids too much at times too, it is our nature to always want to give to our kids but with that kids have to be expected to work in the family too.
love you get well
God bless
